Sara K. Gould, Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO

"It is a day to inspire our future workforce," said Sara K. Gould, President and CEO of the Ms. Foundation for Women. Reports indicate 16 million participate on the actual day. Other communities create their own unique programs for other times more convenient. "The Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work educational program allows flexibility for all communities and we applaud the millions who participate each year."

"Encouraging and teaching the next generation will help create the leaders of tomorrow. I am pleased to support the 'Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work' program, in an effort to show children the value of hard work, commitment and education," said Senator John McCain, R - AZ.

Congresswoman, Barbara Lee D - CA.

LaWanda Abel, Program Manager, Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work

"We hear from people all the time whose professional lives and career choices were impacted by their Take Our Daughters To Work experience back in the 90s. Today, these twenty-somethings are helping to shape the futures of the next generation through Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work, which really demonstrates the purpose of the program – to teach girls and boys about the actual working world and inspire them to start thinking about their careers, how they will balance their lives with work, and what they'll need to do to reach those dreams."

National Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

"Parent involvement is a key to a child's educational success. Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day is an opportunity for parents to share part of their work life with children and to show them that work is an integral part of everyone's life.  This special day is also an opportunity for PTAs, schools, and communities to work together to provide a learning experience for our nation's children," said National PTA CEO, Warlene Gary.

"National PTA acknowledges that there is a new generation at work and encourages parents to use this special day to begin a constructive conversation with children about their careers. Through a program, called PTA Goes to Work, National PTA and the U.S. Department of Labor is providing information to parents and students on the fastest growing careers so that they can make the best informed decisions on career paths."

The National Campaign for Public School Improvement

Kevin Walker, president and national director of Project Appleseed and The National Campaign for Public School Improvement:

"There are 50 million public school parents in America. Real education reform in this country cannot take place without an effective and involved parent constituency. When employers encourage parents to become involved with their children during company time, they invest in the corporate bottom line by ensuring that parents can be involved with their children. Parental involvement is the key to school improvement and school improvement is the key to economic growth and competitiveness. 'Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day' is one way employers can invest in our future work force  -- now. This is a win-win day and I urge America's schools, employers, and parents to take part in this wonderful celebration of parenting and work.

"I have been taking my sons and daughter to work with me for well over 10 years.  Having a regional position for Fidelity Investments has brought me (and my kids), from NYC, to Philly, Morristown NJ, King of Prussia PA, Wilmington Delaware, and points in between. The greatest parts of the day have been; having your children interact with coworkers, for them to see you in a different environment, and to understand how kind and patient so many people are in a working environment.  It helps them form opinions on they type of work they are interested in.  With one son entering college, I can see that he is leaning towards the types of interactions he has had over the years that most stimulated him (both social and technological).  I think this is an experience that every Father, Mother, Son, and Daughter should experience. I look forward to my daughter coming to work with me again this year."

Thanx,

Alan Klayman

Reinforcing the parent-child bond throught Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day...

"With more and more mothers working outside the home, we are finding that the amount of quality time they have to spend with their children is less and less. 'Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day' is a vital initiative because it promotes parent-child bonding on yet another level. By affording our children the opportunity to experience our careers, we are providing them with an immediate educational experience, as well as the possibility of fostering long-term goals and motivation. As an alumnus of the program, and as a practicing school psychologist, I believe in the initiative. It was while experiencing my capable, educated mother's struggle as a secretary to gain respect in a male-dominated corporate environment that I realized I wanted to learn about the educational system, as well as the psychology behind the choices men and women make in terms of their courses of study after high school. It was after a 'Take Your Daughter to Work Day' that I realized I had to become a school psychologist."  - Nadine O'Reilly, M.A. Certified school psychologist.

Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work when home is the workplace...

"I have never participated formally, as my son and daughter are at my workplace every day (I work from home). However, I can speak to the benefits of having children around the workplace.

Sophia entered the first grade this year. She learned how to read and write within six weeks of being in the German school system.  Since we are raising our children bilingually, we have placed a strong emphasis on literacy. Even before they were born, we would "read" to them. Although Sophia's German reading skills are better than English, we are amazed at how she has picked up the language so quickly. She has started to write short stories. I believe she has taken such a keen interesting in writing because she has seen me writing books since she can remember!

Taking your child to work is an empowering experience for both parent and child. The child is integrated into the parent's everyday work life. It captures the child's imagination and readily answers the question "Mommy, what do you do all day?" In my mind, truancy is a non-issue. Education comes in many forms. We learn best when we are doing actively, not sitting passively. The hands-on experience of visiting Mom or Dad at the office leaves lasting memories that override the disadvantage of missing one day of school." - Christine Louise Hohlbaum

Christine Louise Hohlbaum, author of Diary of a Mother and SAHM I Am: Tales of a Stay-at-Home Mom in Europe, has a BA in political science from Smith College and a combined MA in International Relations, German and English Literature from the University of Constance, Germany.
